Atlantic Road Events - October 2026
October is when the Atlantic Road earns its reputation. The autumn storms arrive, waves start breaking over the bridges, and the light turns low and dramatic. This is not a month for a listings sheet; it is the month the road itself is the event. Everything below is the seasonal and calendar material that actually applies.
Season and fixtures
The storm season opens
From early October 2026 onwards
The first big Atlantic depressions roll in, with waves breaking over the road and occasional temporary closures announced by the road authority. The road normally stays open, but check the official traffic service before setting out and never stop on a bridge in a storm.
Where: Atlanterhavsvegen, Hustadvika and Averoy, More og Romsdal
Why go: It is the one season that shows the road at full force; the rest of the year it is simply a beautiful drive.

Clocks go back (end of daylight saving)
Sunday 25 October 2026
Norway switches to winter time, giving an extra hour of light in the morning and an earlier dusk - which matters when you are driving the coastal route.

Halloween
Saturday 31 October 2026
Halloween has become a popular commercial fixture in Norway, with family events in the towns along the coast. Not a public holiday, so expect normal opening hours.
